Actress upset by plight of Afghan refugees
Angelina Jolie struggled to conceal her emotions last week when she visited Afghanistan.
The actress, 33, spent 2 days in the war-torn country talking to poverty-stricken families and refugees in Nangarhar and Kabul.
But after witnessing their plight, Angelina - who is a Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations - broke down in tears.
‘Since the fall of the Taliban in 2001 more than 5 million Afghans have returned home,’ she says.
‘Afghanistan has been struggling to absorb these massive returns. These families have been displaced for nearly 30 years and many of them face difficulties including food, shelter and basic services such as healthcare and education.
‘They have suffered so much yet they remain gracious.’
Angelina left 3-month-old twins Vivienne Marcheline and Knox Leon, daughter Shiloh, 2, and adopted kids Maddox, 7, Pax, 4, and Zahara, 3, in Berlin with partner Brad Pitt, 44.
