Matt Damon and singer Wyclef bring food and medicines to Haiti storm victims

Actor Matt Damon left the glamour and glitz of his Hollywood lifestyle behind on Saturday to roll up his sleeves and help aid relief in the hurricane-hit island of Haiti.

Joined by singer Wyclef Jean, who was born in the Caribbean country, the star of The Bourne Ultimatum handed out food bags and medicine to those left hungry and homeless after Hurricane Ike crossed the island last week.

The two celebrities are encouraging people to help the United Nations raise more than £55 million for the isle, which has been hit by four devastating tropical storms and hurricanes this year.

"Hopefully, we can make enough noise that people will pay attention," said Matt. "I truly believe in the people of my country."

On Sunday, the duo will take a helicopter to the north of the county to distribute further supplies as well as visit the cathedral, which has become a temporary home for 500 islanders.

Matt Damon Taking Summer Off To Lose Weight And Launch Charity

Matt Damon is taking the summer off to lose weight and launch a new children’s charity.

Damon piled on 30 pounds to play the “chunky” lead in Steven Soderbergh’s The Informant and now he’s working out to shed the weight before shooting the war drama Green Zone in September.

But it’s his new charity the One X One Foundation that is taking up much of his time.

He tells USA Today newspaper on getting help:

”I have to make calls. Sheryl Crow is going to play at one of our events. It’s the easiest call in the world to make. I just tell what the charity is about, and everyone wants to do everything they can.”

And on the charity:

“It’s about helping kids. It’s not like before I was a father I was like, ‘The hell with those kids.’ But something does shift when you have a child of your own. It’s hard not to look at every child as somehow connected to you.”

On losing the extra weight:

“If you put it on, it’s easier to get it back off. I’m just boxing. I figure if you get hit enough times, it will fall off!”

He also just revealed he and wife Luciana Barroso are expecting a baby GIRL “soon”.

They announced their baby news in March, but refused to reveal the due date of their second child. And they have decided to hold off on choosing a name for their new daughter, who will be the younger sister to Isabella, 1, and Alexia, 9 - Barroso’s child from a previous relationship.

Damon says:

”We decided to wait till she’s born, and then we’re going to get a look at her, and we’ll probably keep debating it.” The Bourne Identity star also jokes about his female-dominated household: “I’m so outnumbered down here, its crazy.”

Matt Damon And Ben Affleck At The 2nd Annual Ante Up For Africa Event

Matt Damon was out last night at the 2nd Annual Ante Up for Africa - No Limit Texas Hold-Em Tournament held at the Rio Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. The event helped raise money and awareness for the genocide in Darfur.

He talked to People about his upcoming thriller, The Informant, directed by Steven Soderbergh, which he estimates he gained between 20 and 30 pounds for.

“I think I lost my [Sexiest Man Alive] title.”

“It wasn’t necessarily that I needed to be fat, It was that I needed to be ‘doughy’.”

On how the Oscar-winner pack on the pounds:

“I just stopped working out and basically just ate whatever I wanted. I ate a lot of In-N-Out, a lot of burgers, a lot of beer and basically had a great time … When you’re in your 20s you can do that kind of stuff. When you’re in your 30s, its a whole different ballgame.”

His best bud Ben Affleck was also there and even though the weight-gain for Matt was required for a role, he still teases him:

“Some things are just self-evident and don’t even require making fun of. I mean, the man buys two seats on an airplane!”

Matt Damon Busts Up Toys For Darfur

Matt Damon is one of the stars taking part in a photoshoot to bring attention to the conflict in Darfur. Celebrities including Damon, Nip/Tuck's Joely Richardson, and Jemima Khan (Wrath of?) were photographed hacking up toys and children's drawings to represent how children's lives in the Sudanese region have been "shattered."

"After the genocide in Rwanda we all said never again," Damon said.

I know his heart's in the right place, but Matty looks like he's having a lot of fun smashing up that dollhouse. It's supposed to be a somber moment, right? He looks like he should have a bucket of popcorn and a big soda. He's having his own personal demolition derby for Darfur.

Matt Damon attended the Empire Awards held at the Grosvenor House in London, England earlier today (pics below). His movie The Bourne Ultimatum took home the Empire Best Film Award, but that doesn’t seem to be the only thing he is celebrating.
